Cornerstone was planted in 2014 in the Morningside area of Edinburgh. We wanted to be a local, walkable church for our part of town. Our aim was to be a church for those who didn’t already go to church. Today we offer a safe place for curious non-Christians to explore Christianity but also a rich environment for Christians to be in community, learn more about their faith and grow closer to God.
We have a deep sense of mission to bring the grace and love of God to our city, our nation and far beyond. We are an intercultural church bringing people together from different cultures to enjoy the insights and treasures belonging to each one.
Cornerstone is a place where we want to honour and respect everyone. Confidentiality and trust are paramount to the relationships we want to build. People matter a lot to us and we place great value on caring well for each other through the different seasons of life. We love to pop some bubbly and celebrate milestones and achievements but we also support one another in our losses and struggles.
We have a high commitment to providing a culture of pastoral care and counselling that shows God's grace and kindness. All of our ministry staff undertake studies with Biblical Counselling UK and we have experienced and skilled biblical counsellors as part of our pastoral care team. We aim for Cornerstone to be a good place to land for those who are suffering or struggling in life.
We also strive to be a healthy church which guards carefully against the misuse of power and authority. Louise MacMillan who leads our counselling work provides direction and accountability in these areas. We are invested in being a safe church for all who come.
We believe that Jesus is the best example we could follow of compassion and wisdom so we seek to show the same humility and love to other people that he shows to each of us.
Pastoral care at Cornerstone happens in organised and organic ways. We have whole-church events, smaller discipleship and community groups, and one-to-one support. There are lots of ways you can connect with community.
Cornerstone was planted from St Columba’s Free Church in 2014. We believe planting new churches is a great way to bring the hope and life of Jesus to new people, new communities, new cultures and new generations.
Our leadership has a lot of experience and depth of knowledge around church planting. We train and send out church planters and are committed to being a church-planting church. From an initial group of 12 people, we now meet as three congregations in the city.
